Effects of Use of Welfare Equipments in Long Term Care Beneficiaries on the use of healthcare service among Patients with Parkinson's Disease

Abstract
The aging of population is a world wide phenomenon in these days. In the aging population society, the most common disease which causes the insecurity of old age is the Parkinson's disease. The study of changes derived from medical supply insurance benefit of Long Term Care Insurance which solves immobility issue and maintain the quality of life is necessary. In this study, obtained sample population is 29,788 Parkinson patients with the mobile disability who obtained Long Term Care Insurance grade. Sample is divided into two groups£º the case group(5,518 patients) received a Long Term Care Insurance supporting purchase of adult walker, and manual wheel chair and the control group(24,270 patients) failed to have insurance benefit from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011. To analyze data, multiple regression analysis with the Difference in Differences (DID) was performed to analyze the Parkinson¡¯s disease patients' change in 6 months after insurance benefit in purchase of manual wheel chair and adult walker. SPSS statistic program Ver. 22.0 was applied for statistic analysis and statistic process of data for this study. The significance level, p<.05 was set for the significance test. It is clear that insurance benefit affects to reduce the number of hospitalization, days of hospitalization, and medical expenses and increase of the number of outpatients, which be allowed Parkinson¡¯s disease patients with mobile disability accessing to medical services. In addition, reduction of days of hospitalization and medical expenses which occupies most of medical expenses is legitimate result of Long Term Care Insurance establishment purpose£ºreduction of medicare and National Health Insurance financial stability.
